Episode 181 - An Episode of Hard Turns

In this episode, I'm playing catch-up on a bunch of new music. There's stuff from Shellac, Alkaline Trio, Old 97s, Neil Young, Bruce Dickinson, Sierra Ferrell, and Frank Turner. I also take a really weird stance on that Beyoncé record at one point...but you'll have to listen to figure out when! It's fun! Click things!

Here's the cover photo. For your "collection." That's what you call it. Isn't it? Your "collection?"

For the record, I'm completely cool with that and appreciate your support!

The new (and apparently FINAL) Shellac album, "To All Trains." Steve Albini's unwitting swan song. It's really great. You should check it out.

Neil Young has re-recorded the "Ragged Glory" album, but live...and he renamed all of the songs...for...reasons. It's the most Neil Young thing he could have possibly Neil Younged. And he Neiled the Young out of it.

A perfectly good Alkaline Trio album that some of you won't listen to for exactly that reason. Because you hate pop-punk. And joy. You hate joy. You idiot.

For the rest of you...hey! Good album alert!

Sierra Ferrell has written a really beautiful record you should definitely be listening to. This one was much-ballyhooed to me before I picked it up. And sometimes the ballyhoo is right.

Frank Turner has released his 10th album, and he set out to make it COUNT. Did he nail it? Listen to the show. I can't do everything for you.

Bruce Dickinson released a stripped-down and urgent album, right when metal fans needed him to. So...this is that...

Old 97s haven't always had great album covers. And this is no exception. But, like most of their album covers, there is real GOLD on the album itself. So avoid judging a book by its cover and give this a listen...which isn't how books or CDs work...fuck you. How dare you? Just listen to the album. Or the show...definitely the show...
